A week in my life as your MP
It’s been another packed few weeks full of interesting conversations and positive local stories.
Starting with a visit to Infinis, a business based right here in Morecambe that’s doing important work turning methane from landfill into usable energy. It’s a fantastic example of how local industries are playing a role in the UK’s path to net zero, with strong links to the Government’s wider industrial strategy. I was especially pleased to meet one of their apprentices from a local college.
Another stop was Bay Framing, a small business already working closely with the Eden Project, who’ve placed an order for stretched canvas prints. It’s great to see the local supply chain getting a boost even before Eden officially opens. This is proof that it’s already making a positive difference for our town.
I also held one of my regular supermarket surgeries, this time at Morrisons. These sessions are a great way to catch up with people where they’re already out and about—whether for a quick chat, to share a concern, or just say hello. If you ever spot me doing one, do come and say hi!
My Morecambe drop-in at the library was another successful event. It’s always a pleasure to sit down over a cuppa and hear what’s on your mind. Residents are invited by letter to these, but if you’ve got suggestions for future venues, I’d love to hear them, I want to make sure I’m reaching all corners of the constituency.
That includes our rural communities too. My recent Arkholme drop-in was a lovely chance to meet residents in one of the most beautiful parts of the constituency.
Further north, I visited Rawthey Meadows in Sedbergh, a fantastic affordable housing development that recently won Best Affordable Housing Development at the 2025 Northern Housing Awards. The project is a joint effort between Broadacres, South Lakes Housing, and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, and it’s delivered a great mix of homes all heated with energy-efficient air-source heat pumps. With 15 privately owned homes and 34 under social rent or shared ownership. It’s the kind of smart, sustainable development we need more of, and it was great to see it done so well.
It’s been a real pleasure getting out and about again this summer, so many positive things happening locally, and so many passionate people driving them forward. I’m looking forward to more visits and drop-ins over the coming weeks see you out there!
