In Morecambe and Lunesdale, we are incredibly lucky in that we have 2 nuclear power stations at Heysham. Nuclear power has an important role as a low-carbon energy source. It provides ‘always on’ baseload energy and is the only currently reliable and scalable alternative to fossil fuel baseload. Nuclear provides energy density meaning a more efficient use of land. In Heysham, nuclear has provided good, unionised jobs for decades.

We have the land, already designated for nuclear.
We have the skilled people, ready for the next challenge.
And we have a port, a railway and a good road that connects directly to the M6 in only 20 minutes.

This is why I am passionate about and determined to get new nuclear power stations built in Heysham. As we head towards de-fuelling and de-commissioning a new power staton would provide a bridge for skilled, knowledgeable workers to remain in the local area and continue the proud legacy of nuclear at Heysham.
