Regular buses and reliable trains should be a basic expectation in the UK but over the past 14 years the infrastructure of our public transport system has crumbled. Good transport links are important for everyone and maintaining and improving them has been a big part of my work. Constituents tell me that transport and highways are a cause of real concern for them, thus making sure we have decent, affordable and sustainable public transport is a priority for me.

Morecambe and Lunesdale has an aging population and often irregular, unreliable or non-existent public transport links. Limited bus and rail services, especially in rural areas, create difficulties for those without cars, particularly the elderly and those on low incomes. Bus routes are often infrequent, with some areas experiencing gaps in service during evenings and weekends, reducing mobility and access to essential services. Additionally, the lack of integrated transport options between Morecambe, Lunesdale, and neighbouring towns can lead to longer travel times and increased costs for commuters.

This Labour government is committed to improving public transport through legislation such as the Better Buses Bill and the Public Ownership Bill. Both aim to overhaul the current systems and deliver on Labors commitment to improving living standards across the country.
